Friday, July 16 (Letters from Lea - 2010)

Today was the coolest rehearsal ever and we woke up at seven and headed to the Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN. We had a block there from 10-2. The turf had no lines on it so the field liners had to literally tape the entire field down. While we were there we worked on some huge changes in our show that will show up in a few weeks. The sound of the hornline in the dome was unbelievably AMAZING! The reverb made for some timing issues though, and we definitely had to be sure to watch the conductor. It actually held together really well - they made us do two run-throughs while we were there, so we were exhausted by the time the rehearsal was finished.

After we packed up, we headed to a high school to rehearse--it was an hour away and the entire hornline bus fell asleep on the way there! The weather was sunny and hot during our two hour visual rehearsal - we spent it changing some of the movement in "The Prayer," which makes it look a whole lot cleaner and helps highlight the guard work. In ensemble this evening we spent the first hour finishing visual with the guard and drums. Next we chunked through the show and did - yes, our THIRD run-through today. Wow it was tough, but we pushed through and made it to snack.

Breakfast: cereal, yogurt, fruit, cinnamon rolls
Lunch: turkey/ham sandwiches, rice krispy bars, apples, chips
Supper: chicken, baked potatoes, broccoli and cheese
Snack: ice cream bars, cinnamon rolls

Shout outs:
1) Ben, our high brass tech is leaving us for a couple weeks - we will miss him and really appreciate all he has been doing with us!
2) Dan Tewalt, a euphonium from 2008 came to rehearsal today. He sat behind me on the bus back then and was always so happy and fun! Now he is a bigwig band director here in MN. Great to see you again!
